The lush, fertile Comox Valley included the communities of Courtenay, Comox, Cumberland, as well as the adjacent islands of Denman and Hornby. Museums, galleries, and fabulous shopping attract visitors to the area, while the mountains, hiking trails, and surging rivers lure them from it.

Explore history’s riches at the Courtenay & District Museum & Paleontology Centre. Discover the fossilized remains of an 80 million-year old elasmosaur. This and other fossil displays have curious visitors asking more questions than the helpful staff can answer. At the Comox Air Force Museum, home of many military artifacts and memorabilia, you can see a Czech Air Force MiG-21 "Fishbed-J."

The Comox Valley is a ski buff’s haven with Mt. Washington, the Island’s largest ski hill, offering over 40 runs for skiers and boarders. Teens and kids love the tubing park while the cross-country ski trails are perfect for the entire family.

The Comox Valley is 219 km (137 mi.) northwest of Victoria along Highway 19. Commercial bus and airlines service the area. Ferries from Horseshoe Bay and Tsawwassen ferry terminals, both in Vancouver, travel to Nanaimo, 108 km (67 mi.) southeast of Courtenay. Ferry service is also available from Comox to Powell River on the Upper Sunshine Coast.
